PIERCING MINORS
Identification Requirements for Piercing Minors
- For any procedure involving a minor. Michigan State Law requires that the parent be present to sign the paperwork, remain present during the procedure, and provide to the studio their unexpired photo id, and the birth certificate of the minor. If the minor also has some form of photo ID that is bonus points 😉
- Acceptable forms of ID include:
- For the parent, one of the following:
- Driver’s License, State ID, Military ID, US Passport / Passport Card
- From the minor:
- Birth Certificate (We can accept an unaltered photocopy)
- Bonus Points – Student ID, State ID, College ID, US Passport, Passport Card
- We cannot accept printed copies of ids or something just shown on a phone
- Each time a service is performed a new client release and copy of the ID must be made.
- For the parent, one of the following:
- In the event that the minor has a guardian instead of parent, we are required to have the guardianship paperwork
Piercing Age Limits
Why do we have age limits for piercings?
- As a teenager your body is still growing. For example, due to growth, an industrial piercing given at age 14 will most likely migrate by age 21 into a position that is not representative of a good piercing. You will most likely be unhappy with it at this point.
- Certain piercings can take months to heal and you absolutely must follow the aftercare instructions without fail, including not touching or snagging the piercing. A certain level of maturity is necessary to follow thru with proper aftercare. Lack of proper aftercare can result in a poorly healed piercing and no one wants that, especially us.
- Are there places that ignore these age limits? Yes there are, they do so because they lack experience and training, or they are more interested in your money than the consequences of what they are doing.
- As a professional piercing studio, we are obligated to observe the best practices which have been established by the industry’s leading professionals thru years of experience. We are here to provide you with nothing less than the best piercing available.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, step-parents or Grandparents are not allowed to sign for the minor child unless they have proof of court appointed guardianship. Emancipated minors must have the state ID with the emancipated endorsement
- Young children are allowed at Pin Ups and Needles as long as someone is here to supervise them; other than the person getting tattooed or pierced.
- Can I leave my minor unattended during the procedure? No. The guardian that signs the paperwork must remain present in the studio during the entirety of the procedure.
WHY DO WE ASK FOR ALL THIS INFORMATION?
We care about what we do. A body piercing is a big decision that requires proper aftercare and forethought. It is up to the parent to decide if their minor child can follow-through with the commitment after they have left the clean environment of our studio. This is not something to be decided by the minor, one of their friends, or a relative. The contract and ID requirements must be met each time you come in. Your minor child will not be able to come in a second time by themselves for a new piercing. Consent for multiple procedures at different times is not possible.
Any establishment that does not care enough to check for proper ID may not be the best choice and may be violating State or Local Law. Cutting corners with the law generally means cutting corners elsewhere.
